Grandma's Biscuits & Gravy

April 8, 2017 in biscuits and gravy, delicious, food, southern, southern meal, sweet tea

A delicious southern meal ready in only 25 minutes.  One of my favorite parts of growing up on the farm was heading over to my grandma’s house (across the yard!) to see what she was making for lunch that day. Grandma always had a “Sunday Meal” ready for my dad, uncle, and anyone else on the farm when they came in for lunch every day.    Here is Grandma’s house.  See, it really is right across the yard! My favorite meal day at Grandma’s was always when biscuits and gravy was on the menu! As I grew up and became busier, Saturday turned into my day at Grandma’s. She would always make biscuits and gravy just for me and we would all have our glass of sweet tea. Grandma even let me pick the tv channel, so of course I chose CMT instead of the news that grandma and the guys watched all the time.  🙂 We would then enjoy our Saturday lunch together. I never once saw Grandma use a recipe for biscuits and gravy, so over the years I’ve been trying to perfect my recipe by trial and error.  Even though my recipe will never be quite as good as Grandma’s, I think it is a pretty close second.  Today, I’m finally sharing that recipe with you! This is all you need to make the gravy. I have found that Tennessee Pride is my favorite sausage to use.  I once tried another brand, and the gravy just didn’t taste as good. Start by browning the sausage over medium high heat. I like to crumble the sausage into small pieces by using my Pampered Chef “Mix N Chop.”  Get yours here!  Be sure to use a large pan because this is the same pan the gravy will be in. Once the sausage is browned, do NOT drain the grease.  I never said this recipe was healthy, just delicious! Sprinkle 1/3 cup of flour over the cooked sausage and stir until the sausage is evenly coated.  Next, add 3 cups of milk and a little bit of salt and pepper.  I always eyeball the salt and pepper, so add enough to your liking. This is about the time I put the biscuits in the oven.  Store bought biscuits taste just fine 🙂 Continue to cook the gravy over medium-high heat until it starts to have a few bubbles.  Then, reduce the heat to low and continue to cook.  Be sure to keep stirring until the gravy looks thick and delicious.  This should take about 5-10 minutes.  That’s all there is to it! You’re now ready to eat and be blown away by your yummy homemade gravy!  Next time you are in the mood for a southern style breakfast, instead of going to a crowded restaurant on the weekend, give this recipe a try.  Grab a glass of sweet tea, turn on CMT, and enjoy this delicious meal!  This is my grandma! I hope she is smiling down knowing that her delicious cooking still lives on in the hearts of many!  Here is the recipe in full: Leave your comments below and let me know how you like it!

Let’s take a moment to pause and appreciate how cute this set is from @champion! It’s absolutely perfect for Spring! I would recommend going one size up on the shorts because of the cinched high waist. I’m wearing a M!
